Independence Extravaganza

Our Independence Extravaganza is fun for the whole family!

In 2018, our Independence Extravaganza events run from Tuesday, July 3, through Sunday, July 8.  The Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each of these days (with $1 admission on Wednesday, July 4).

7:00 p.m.       Sunshine Auto Parade

A must-see every year, this popular parade begins on Sentell Street, goes up Route 14, down Bay Street to "The Loop," and ends at the Oscar Fuerst Ball Field.

10:00 p.m.    Village of Sodus Point Fireworks

The lawn of the Sodus Bay Lighthouse provides a perfect location to watch the fireworks, which are set off on the Sodus Bay channel pier.  For more information, contact the Village of Sodus Point at (315) 483-9881.

7:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.     Breakfast on the Bluff

Enjoy a hot breakfast of pancakes; eggs; sausages; coffee, tea, or juice outdoors under a tent on the Lighthouse bluff overlooking Lake Ontario.  Cost is $9 with proceeds helping to maintain our beautiful lighthouse.

8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.       Art & Craft Show

Artists and craftspeople sell pottery, jewelry, clothing, paintings, photographs, greeting cards, and much more on the Lighthouse Lawn.  Registration is now open, for more information or to register, CLICK HERE.

10:00 a.m.       Red, White, and Blue Kiddie Parade & Fun Festival

Children and their families in patriotic costume march from the Sodus Point Fire Hall, 8364 Bay Street, to the Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum, 7606 North Ontario Street.  Music will be provided by the C. A. Palmer Drum & Fife Corps.  Participants receive gifts.  Refreshments are available.  Entertainment (made possible by Martha & Tom Lightfoot) includes a magician who makes balloon animals and a face painter.  Lawn games and other activities, including craft projects and a coloring station, will be held until 12 p.m.  Museum admission is just $1 all day!

2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.       FREE Outdoor Concert

The first concert of the summer season features Gap Mangione Big Band playing swing and Big Band favorites.  Refreshments are available.  This year marks Gap's 26th performance at the lighthouse!  Museum admission is just $1 during the concert!

Runners can pick up their bibs and t-shirts at Fleet Feet Sports, 155 Culver Road, Suite 110, Rochester, NY  14620.

1:00-5:00 p.m.     Packet Pick-up for the Lighthouse 5-K Run

Runners can pick up their bibs and t-shirts in Sodus Point at Captain Jack's Good Time Tavern, 8505 Greig Street.

7:30-8:45 a.m.     Registration for the Lighthouse 5-K Run

9:00 a.m.       Sodus Bay Lighthouse 5-K Run

This popular 5-K race, presented by Fleet Feet Sports, draws nearly 700 runners to its USA Track & Field-certified course. 

2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.       FREE Outdoor Concert

The second concert of the summer season features The Smugtown Stompers playing Dixieland Jazz.  Refreshments are available.  Museum admission is just $1 during the concert!
